505 Studio Brief 2 - Ideology

"Examine graphic design outputs relating to social, political and ethical change. Aim to increase your awareness of historical examples plus contemporary practice that is responsive to 21st Century issues. Be sure to note the interrelationships between medium, message and distribution."

You should then produce a body of research work that explores the connections between these concepts and their respective design outcomes prior to your own practical and conceptual exploration of possible products, ranges and methods of distribution.

Your research work and ideas should reflect your own ideologies, concerns, and ambitions as a graphic designer. Consider the role of the graphic designer in 21st century society/culture and their responsibility regarding social, political, and ethical change.

For this project I am going to look at the effect of US Gun Laws. I have always been very strong about my views on how the 2nd amendment should be revisited. This project will look at the ideas of how impactful having a gun is on a day to day basis and the damage guns cause not only through what you see in the news.

SB1 - Music Genre Project

"Your task is to thoroughly research a micro-genre of music from this website. This research should be extensive, with the intention that you become an expert in the genre. This micro-genre will become the focus for the design and production of a new piece of work to be publicly exhibited."

Design an object that celebrates (or critiques) an aspect of genre's specific characteristics:

political, aesthetic, production methods, audience demographic, key intentions or its connection to place.

Think visually, explore both literal and lateral responses. Consider the various techniques and processes that are available to you and their suitability for conveying or reinforcing the ideas that you are trying to communicate. Your exhibition design object must be ambitious and be a response to your research. Do not limit your ideas: it could be a flag, ringtone, rug, wallpaper, exercise video,
instruction manual, map, perfume, clothing, game/puzzle, piece of furniture, etc. Whatever aspect of your micro-genre you chose to focus on, the research you do should inform the format and type of object you chose to produce. Use production methods relevant.
