Playing on the term story of my life I decided to play with the idea of the piece being a film poster, manipulating the details in a film poster to add further emphasis on my opinion to this matter. Above is the rough digital approach.
- Type will be place largely to be seen from far away in the exhibition it will draw people closer to it
- 'i was born here' is placed in small type and different colour to represent a different persons dialogue and the size emphasises how submissive/small they become to the question
- This juxtaposes to the large text to represent the boldness of being asked that question and the irritation.
- Ratings are exaggerated to 5 star to add to the over the top boldness of the design and attitude
- The rating names are rude and playful to the design to add further humour
- The festival award names are changed to AV Festival (my initials) to add to the identity aspect and play on the names - Audience favourite is changed to 'Not audience favourite'
Using photoshop I was able to re-create this look by forming a gradient map over the photo and editing the colour ways shown - this made the pink, purple and blue the most prominently used colours for the poster.
I was really happy with this outcome and felt that this was the final piece - the brief lacks more experimentation with design style but I believed the more i played around with this outcome the more it would lose it's meaning and become something less impactful and unique. This outcome is fun and playful a unique way of representing my British Asian culture for my love with British Indie Films. The use of the image also works really well and adds to the attitude that I wanted to produce. The use of language throughout the poster further adds to this.
The comical approach of this design makes the message seem less accusatory to those on the other end of the joke - this makes it less controversial and more upbeat and friendly.
