Here are videos of children undertaking the Doll and Skin Colour test, this test was held to highlight discrimination and marginalisation of skin colour.
This video looks at the effects of discrimination and marginalisation between skin colours. I feel this video is extremely impactful because we are getting the raw and truthful thought children have been taught to learn. This video also highlights the attitudes of skin colour, and the reasons to which people possibly have this attitude to why they feel they aren't beautiful with their skin.
"your colour is what makes you you"
- why is the darker child dumb? - because she has black skin
- why is the darker child bad? - because he's really dark
- why is the darker child dumb? - because she looks black black
- why is the lighter girl good? - because she's looks whiter
- why do you want the lighter child as a classmate - because he's white
This video was very sad to watch, as it shows the views of skin colour within the younger generation - this highlights the effect of colourism in adverts, movies and the effect it has on the younger generation.
> This research into the attitudes of skin really highlights the attitude on a larger scale than just the adults. This also highlights the fact that the attitudes of skin colour is shaping the younger generations opinions on skin colour, which leads the the effect of colourism. I feel that having the children relay the facts adds a stern truthfulness to the subject. For my project I feel that I should look at ways in which I can deliver ther attitudes of colourism in a gripping way such as this.
