Paul Mijksenaar, who was born in Amsterdam 1944 is a designer of visual information. Mijksenaar is the director and founder of the international design bureau Mijksenaar which is based in Amsterdam and New York. Mijksenaar is well known for his information and wayfinding systems for railway stations and airports, including New Yorks JSK and, LaGuardia in New Jersey and Schiphol in Amsterdam.
Through research I was able to read up on how on of Mijksenaar beliefs is that in all English speaking countries, all airports should only use a sign system that consists of the english language and not a second language. He believed that by doing so, it will encourage travellers to learn more English. Mijksenaar opinion on this matter is very interesting, however being an airport where you're in a busy and hectic environment, even for those who can read English, a system built of visual language would prove far more effective and less time consuming to read and understand.
Asides from Mijksenaar ideologies of how a sign systems should be "similar" using only the english language, I really admire the sign systems that he has created, they're easy to read, recognisable to all multi-lingual people, through his simplistic refined designs. Through this objective form a signage, it's clear to me that this is the most successful sign system design to use, instead of including English.
