Brief 2 - Crit Notes

Design's inspired from our initial ideas and responses from the interim crit were further developed to create a collection of sketches for a group crit three days later. These rough initial designs covered the identifiable links to TV Static, fragmentation and looking at distortion through photocopying and capturing movement, dots and strokes creating the letter resembling the static pattern on a tv, and simplistic experimenting of fragmenting the lettering.

Here are notes that were taken down recording peoples opinion of the work:

- I really like the one mades of dots - shows a clear link to static TV
- The photocopying shows a confident link to your rationale and produces interesting colours
- Have you looked at breaking a screen and looking at the effect it makes
- The design created with dashes looks like morse code
- The design which involves cutting and removing key aspects of the typeface works really well, you could further   develop this typeface and look at creating two typefaces so the patter becomes irregular

Overall the crit was really helpful, giving great ideas for development. Two design ideas which were really interesting that will be approached was the idea of using Morse code into the typeface. Morse Code being a form of communication through sound still ties in well with the word static, being sharp rapid staccato sounds.
The second design idea of creating two typefaces was really interesting, to allow one to experiment with the harmonisation of the typeface  adds a form of intrigue and complexion to the rationale and overall becomes rather playful. One thing that needs to be taken into consideration is the use of the typeface and the characteristics that the typeface has.
