SB1 - Initial Ideas .

For initial ideas of the project I really want to focus on the aspect of educating and celebrating the notion of Bhangra, I want to represent it in a quirky and uplifting way, that also will allow the spectator to learn from the outcome. Below I have some rough ideas that I have come up with, with reasoning behind the idea and possible ways in which the outcome could be produced:

1) Daytimers' Hidden Kit

This design idea, will illustrate the comical and rebellious ways of of the 60's-80's with bhangra music. The main concept for this idea, is to create a hidden kit that will allow the students to sneak away to the daytimers' event. The outcome will be a school book which looks normal on the outside, but however when opened it holds the key essentials for a student to leave and go to the event. This will be a piece that brings awareness to the youthful and comical side of Bhangra, and bring a contextual understanding for how it was celebrated by youths.

2) Box Piece - celebrating the travel of Bhangra

This design piece will be made to celebrate the origin of Bhangra. This piece will bring a round about expression of what Bhangra is to the audience, and illustrate key aspects of key facts about Bhangra. The piece will be a symbol of the journey of Bhangra as well, highlighting the fact that it journeyed from Punjab to Birmingham. The outcome will be a delivery box covered in symbolism (that link to key facts) and labels (e.g. a delivery label stating it travelling from Punjab to Birmingham). Tape will be replaced with traditional Indian ribbon, and there will be quirky stickers/symbols that replace you traditional delivery symbols (e.g. fragile, with the two hand symbol, is turned to 'not fragile' with a Bhangra hand gesture).

3) Clothing - celebrating the fusion of England and Punjab.

This idea is similar to the box piece idea, infusing the symbolism of Bhangra onto a western jacket. This will celebrate the unity of the western and eastern world through music. This could also be created to be a hypothetical piece of clothing a person could wear to daytimers' event. The jacket would also be adorned with Indian clothing material to further refer to the eastern culture.

> Overall, the Delivery Box design represents the migration of the Punjab culture and heritage and the origins to which the Bhangra music come from. In comparison the the Secret Kit and Jacket design the box will poetically celebrate the re-birth of the micro genre, and educate viewers of its origins in a more understandable way.
