Brief 1 - Initial Ideas

Being an out of world experience, Virtual reality is something playful, a form of escapism and somewhat alienating to our reality. Infusing these key elements I was able to come up with initial ideas that reflect my ideology on what the company and product should represent.

Initial Idea designs on Illustrator, playing around with kerning, weight and crossbars. The first design gives off an old retro arcade game look (e.g. pac-man), ties in well with the product of being a form of gaming experience, could be a way juxtapose the old and new, old retro font to heighten the impact of new innovating technology. The second design is somewhat difficult to read, trying to identify the legibility of the work when kerning is tight, highlights how this word is unfamiliar to audience and that I need to keep the logotype legible. The third design was a play around with layers, connoting the layer of reality and virtual reality. An interesting concept however the length of the word itself makes the logotype an eyeful. The 4th and 5th designs were more successful, simple changes such as removing the crossbars add an alienating look, the boldness making it easy to read.

Cutting through reality, another poetic approach for creating the logotype, playing around with slicing the letters and increasing x height of the letters. A simple approach, however the length of the word and unfamiliarity towards the word makes the overall look, busy and not effective.

Playing around with kerning and negative space, further development into the theme of escapism and layers.  The design with circles between each space, adds an alienating hieroglyphic effect however rather busy. The design without circles, is clean, easy to read and without crossbars in the A reinforces the unfamiliarity and alienating look.

Further development inspired by the use of shapes and combining them with lettering to create a hieroglyphic look. Creating a white outline on the future typeface created an abnormal and rather interesting look. Detail would be hard to obtain on a small scale outcome (e.g, business cards)
