SB4 - Research

As this was a heavily based client project the majority of the research for this project was through looking at Jasmines Work that she had created. I didn't want to be heavily inspired or influenced by other work that I may see through researching other photography branding.

Jasmines work is really hectic and rough - there is no flow in subject matter or style and the grittiness of her work bring to life the behind the scene of life. Her work capture euphoric in the eyes of the rebellious youth. Self expression in many forms is explored in her work. This Instagram page acts as her website as her website has not been made yet, and will be made with the branding made by me.

Research into opinions on Photography branding was made, learning the do's and don't of photography branding and what will make the branding successful.

6 Do’s and Don’ts of
Branding for Photographers

This site was really informative of the many steps photographers will have to take to get a good branding set up. It helped put me in the perspective of Jasmine and the things she has to do and the ways in which I can help her with the visual assets. It helped highlight that the branding needs to be something unique and can be easily carried out over different social platforms.

How Branding Can Make or Break Your Photography Business

This article looks at explaining how branding is more than just making something look aesthetically pleasing but something that can inform the viewer about their style through the branding - and that is also more about the photographer.

"The branding shows dedication":
I want this logo to be something unique, not simple explored just digitally and with letter or just her name. I was this to be a bespoke logo that other can't easily re-create. A good logo for Jasmine will translate how much effort she has used to build her branding and platform - so again I want her logo to be interesting. I don't want the outcome I create to represent a "branding blunder" forming something that doesn't represent her or her style at all.

"It makes you memorable":
This again adds on to how I want to make the logo branding unique for her, something that isn't related to trends or needs to be changed. An outcome that she will always want to use and won't age.

"It gives them all the feels":
I never thought about how I need to design the logo not just for Jasmine but for the audience. Looking at her work her target audience would also be very much into her aesthetic or gritty BTS styles photos (aged 18 - 25). So when designing the logo I need to consider how this could be something that the Target audience might like too.

"It’s un-copy-able":
Don't create something that is generic and can be copied/relatable to other photographers. If she has a unique and original logo that will make her more memorable as a photographer - especially when sending work to professionals, or sending out any visual assets of the branding.

This Is Why You Need a Photography Brand

"A brand is so much more than a business name or logo. Your brand is what a person thinks of when they see your work. Your brand is everything you do that is client-facing whether that be your actual photography, your website design and copy, your social media presence, and how you choose to portray yourself and personality in any public space."

1) Decide How to Infuse Your Personality Into Your Brand

2) Know Your Ideal Client

3) Choose Colours and Fonts That Match Your Brand

4) Create Content That Engages Your Ideal Client

I think as a part of getting to understand Jasmine
and her work I will have her fill out a little questionnaire
so I can get to know a bit more about her. I really want to
delve into this project and create a logo that best
represents her and her photography.

QUESTION WITH JASMINE

What do you want the branding to express?
"I think I want it to express me and the kind of work I am producing, I want it to be professional yet not overly slick as I wouldn't describe my content as slick (I know that's a bit contradicting but you get what I mean?)"

If you could describe your photography in three words what would they be?
"Documenting, gritty, playful and real" What do you want people to see when they look at your branding? (the mood/style) I want people to see something that evoked the same kind of emotions as the photographs, something maybe a little rough around the edges.
