SB5 - Evaluation

I really enjoyed doing this project. The design that landed me the commission was something I created on a train journey back to Leeds, so it was really exciting to have gained an opportunity from something I made so trivially. It was a great opportunity to gain better network-working skills, setting up meetings with the editor of the magazine and talking about the commission.

I was a bit confused with how I was commissioned to have my work in their magazine but they had control of what the work looked like, however it did allow us to come up with something that was consistent and liked by all the team. The time management of the project was very short, I was given a week to design all the designs and have them finalised before the submission date. I was able to balance it all really well with other projects including my Context of Practice work.

The brief itself was very simplistic in terms of development. The client was very matter of fact to what they wanted to have for the magazine; so it didn’t leave a lot of room for experimentation either. If I were to go back to this project I would have liked to experiment with different design approaches that further bring depth to the unique shoes chosen. Possibly even creating motion graphic designs for it.
