This brief was very fun and experimental, it was a very refreshing brief that allowed me to freely and loosley explore collaging which is a design medium that I really enjoy. The process of the development was very concise. I wanted to design something that had meaning towards the song, instead of creating something completely different from the aesthetics that are associated to this track. I understand that this did lower the development process, however I had a strong idea of the approach I wanted to use inspired by Dadaism.
Dada design has always been something that I wanted to explore in my work, so to be able to do it for this project was really rewarding.
I left this brief last, because I was waiting for the Secret 7 brief to go live for this year; however it was announced that Secret 7 would go live after the 7th of May. So this brief was a hypothetical approach to what Secret 7 could be, the song was chosen from a random generator to follow the same anonymity process. Even though this brief was left last, I was still able to manage the work process with the small amount of time left for this module to form an outcome that I was really happy with.
The loose collage process was very experimental and great for time efficiency - I was able to make several development designs and it was a lot more rewarding instead of designing a digital collage. Similar to the Penguin Book brief, I was able to design an outcome that wasn’t heavily based on digital design and was more hands on. If I were to approach this brief again, I would maybe approach ways in which I could incorporate hand drawn elements so that the whole design wasn’t all secondary imagery, and looked more unique.
