SB6 - Research and Initial Ideas

MassArts students gained a better understanding for Leeds by spending the afternoon around the city. Documentation was taken through sketches, photography and notes - highlights what key features stood out to MassArt students - this process and the opinions of both Leeds and MassArts students helped generate initial concepts that took in both sides into account.

RESEARCH FOR THIS PROJECT WAS ALL PRIMARY.

Due to the limited time on the brief, exploring different initial concepts wasn't a logistic idea, so idea generations were made concisely. The most common concept mentioned by all the team was that Leeds is a Student Hub, heavily populated by University students - students were the decided target audience. The finalised concept for this brief was to create an editorial that will act as a monthly guide for the students of Leeds. The editorial will consist of interviews, comics, and confessions from students forming relatable content to the target audience.

Notes and initial design ideas for the project:

1) Freshers survival kit - comical references to the Leeds Student Life - filled with info about nights outs in Leeds and the dos and donts

2) Comic - a comic that is relatable and sarcastic to the students of Leeds - putting the readers (students) in the same perspective as the character of the comic.

3) What on Leeds - Leeds is so alive with different and cool events make a guide that visually displays and mentioned what is happening in Leeds

4) Student way-finding system - a fake system that could be used by students to get around the city

5) Drinking Game - that mimics and dares those in the Otley Run themed game.

6) Collection of best Leeds Confessions to act as a humorous book that can be sold.

7) A secret magazine just for the young/student generation of Leeds filled with relatable content that acts as a monthly series with updated information, interviews and events.

8) Food Guide - a playful design concept that covers all the best places to go in Leeds.

LEEDS FESS

Another form of information that we will collect is Leeds Fess - a site with anon confessions of Leeds making them honest and hilarious for content in the magazine!

INTERVIEWS AND PORTRAITS

We interviewed students around in Leeds to get honest down to earth answers of the weirdest and quirkiest questions. Andrea took sketches of those who was interviewed. Simon and Alex asked the questioned and recorded the interview - where I transcribed it all to be placed easily for the editorial.
