SB3 - Evaluation

SB3 PENGUIN BOOK COVER - PROJECT EVALUATION

Overall, I was really happy with the outcome of this brief, I was able to push myself more creatively in the production element of this project, instead of just creating a digital outcome. The hands on approach of this project helped me fully understand the ways in which I can push my design work further. From reading the book and researching in Suzanne Dean, I knew that I wanted the project to involve more practical skills, and an element of craft. The development process of this project was very condensed, but this was only because I was very confident in the design approach I wanted to take after exploring it in my initial ideas and sketches.

Not only reading the book, I also watched the movie and followed through on extensive research to fully gage the content and meaning of the book. This research helped inform the outcome and forms a strong justification about the design throughout the whole brief.

The time management of this project was well executed, following a weekly planner which helped the project go smoothly. I added extra dates to go back to this project incase of any errors that may arise, which gave me extra time to fully immerse myself into the production of the project. If I were to approach this project again I would potentially look at how this style could be used and shown on multiple of Murakami’s books to form a series, using the same design technique but different colour schemes.

The piece was not selected for the competition, and upon reflection I question if the design may have been too generic, or similar to past examples. On the other hand, I am still really pleased with the outcome and received great crit feedback from the class, and through social media (view on blog)
