SB6 - Development

Each team was set an appropriate role to speed up the development process of the project. Half the team set out to have interviews with students around Leeds and take sketches of the interviewees. The set up of the editorial will be A4 having facing pages set up on A3 - making printing and assembling the outcome easier and faster.

The story of Leeds is in it’s people and the
stories they tell. In a city of students, what
makes Leeds unique is the culture and stories
passed by word of mouth. From complaining
about everything to enjoying a pint at 2 in the
afternoon the story of Leeds is found in its heart.
In its monthly issues ‘Proper Gander’ brings
insight into what Leeds is to students. We want
to give you the best insider's look into what

Leeds is all about...what it’s really all about.

The design of the book will be set up like a magazine, with a ‘newspaper cover called ‘The Mundane Times’ - a playful/rebellious way of ‘hiding’ the contents inside, and a comical approach to representing Leeds newspapers. The colour tone will be kept consistent throughout to create a flow throughout the editorial and to keep a modern design approach appealing to the target audience.

The chosen colour scheme for the editorial is green, black and white - to offer a gender neutral feel and also offer a similar aesthetic to design visuals created in present time.  The type chosen for the magazine is varied and consists of bespoke type to again add to the youthful aesthetic. The types is really unique and speaks to each section of the magazine.
The logo and name for the editorial was chosen to be ‘Propergander’, a play on words for the northern term ‘having a proper gander, and the word ‘Propaganda’. The logo is consistent with the colour and type used in the magazine, and will be applied to the magazine as a vinyl sticker.

Simon illustrated a comic for the newspaper to mimc real newspapers - this was to form a comedy view on the puddles in Leeds an exaggeration. The images were scanned in and Alex P inverted them and composed them for the page spread.

The team were illustrated by Simon and added to the Meet the Team page.

Each page is created to offer a unique experience through its use of typefaces, imagery and composition. The design style shown throughout was used to form a relatable aesthetic to the younger demographic readers, making it something seen as more enticing to read than that of existing city guides and magazines.
