SB4 - Evaluation

I was really happy to have been able to do this brief, I haven’t worked on a branding brief in a while, so this project was really refreshing and exciting. I feel I really pushed myself with being more adventurous with the brief, creating a logo that wasn’t just created digitally and physically spray painting the elements to tie in with Jasmines chosen design approach.

The concept of creating a package to be sent out to professionals was my idea, as I wanted to create something exciting from this brief but also really useful for Jasmine. Jasmine was really great to work with, there were issues of miscommunication with printing. I had to explain due to Jasmines logo choice we couldn't spray paint the logos onto the business cards anymore. By printing the business cards we also wouldn't be able to print in neon pink as the CMYK printers can’t achieve that colour.

This project was a great way to learn how to work with future professionals, and deal with miscommunication; If I were to improve this project more, I would have stuck to having the logo that could be spray painted as it would make the branding more interesting and easy for Jasmine to implement in future as all she would need in spray paint and a stencil of the logo.

I was able to manage my time quite well with this brief, even with the late replies and miscommunications with process with Jasmine. I planned out times well, incase problems occurred with screen printing of the envelopes - this helped give me time to identify the best way to screen print on the tricky material to form a strong outcome. Business Cards, Vinyl Stickers and Postcards were printed/made by Jasmine, which justifies the colour difference between the content inside the envelope - if I were to return to this brief, I would make sure Jasmine was printing in the right colour tones, or help set up files to be sent to professional printers that offer CMYK printing.

One thing that I would like to express is that I wish there was a level of a business approach to this brief. Being taught that working for free on your design work is really bad but then supplying photography students with free branding felt ironic. Although it would be something in our submission, I still believe this brief should have looked at making contracts, invoices and emails about copyright to teach both the photography students and us how a process like this would work in the real world.
