SB4 - Development

Initial concepts were further developed and digitised, looking at blackletter typefaces which reflected the style of the photography. Development ideas were placed on business cards to get an understanding for composition. Using photography on the business card was explored but the versatility of the work proved difficult to represent jasmines work as a whole. Exploring the composition of letters to form faces out of J and B (initials) was most successful when evaluating with Jasmine.

Forming a face out of Jasmines initials was the strongest concept. The J and the B work well in the logo and it's identifiable as a face however the eye may come across as being a C which isn't in the logo name.

This design was further pushed and developed, incorporating the letter P for photography created a stronger logo face. I think the use of the P add a form of attitude to the logo face which corresponds really well with her work.

At this stage of development the idea to have a logo that could be spray painted onto any deliverable was created, this would be useful for Jasmine after University, to make promotional content and business cards out of any card she can find.

After coming up with a solid concept for the logo we also discussed what colour scheme she wanted to use for this branding - She mentioned she wanted to explore neon colours that maybe really interesting.

The logo was cut out with card to form a stencil and then spray painted with Black home decor spray paint. The outcomes came out really well and I really like the ways in which the edges aren't perfectly refines and have a blur effect - this links to how jasmine wants the logos to be 'rough around the edges'

Neon colours were digitally explored to show jasmine how they would look.

I created a mock up to show Jasmine how the logo could look if spray painted onto card in neon pink (which is the chosen colour that Jasmine wants to use). She really like the outcome that was created - however she felt it still felt a little to refines for her as a personal branding design.

This idea of spray painting the logo onto card then inspired the experimentation with creating the logo out of spray paint strokes itself, this would be development to making the logo look less refined to suit Jasmines preferences. Letters from the initials were spray painted, scanned and then digitally composed to form strong logo outcomes.

Two logo designs were created one with and without counters, the one with counters would be a design that can’t be spray painted but screen printed. Jasmine preferred the logo with the counters so production time and methods needed to be changed. The colour chosen for the colour was neon pink to reflect with Jasmines past work and personal preference.

The logo designs created were really successful and Jasmine really liked them. The two final logos chosen was from the logo design (the most recent design) shown above. One with and one without the counter. If the design were to have no counters I will be able to still spray paint them with a stencil onto different deliverables - however if she decided to choose the logo with the counters I wont be able to spray paint the logo and may have to have them either digitally printed or screen printed.
