Desiging Books with David Pearson

To gain a better understanding the book design, I decided to look into the essence of book design to gain an independent understanding for the process.

Notes taken from video of David Pearson

- the main thing to look for is everything communicate is a clear uncluttered way

- you dont get a lot of time to communicate what the book is by just the design cover

- book thats a spare and direct - to communicate one thing

- whoever books still are great either by the illustrative feel, or even the process it could be made.

- imagery and text combined and one with itself

Overall this video clip helped justify that there really isn't a desired/successful form of book design, any approach to book design is great as long as the meaning/title of the book is communicated on the front cover. It also helped remind me that the cover should be quick to identify in terms of the genre of the book, mood and even target audience of the book. I will take these notes into account to help shape a strong body of work.
