Problem Solving and Crit Feedback

The first troubles with communication within the group was to form a brand identity that followed a form of consistency. Even though there was a chosen design (the poster with the gradient circles) some members of the team lead astray from this design approach creating work that didn't flow with the consistency of the poster and the leaflet.

The weblink (on the left) designed above was an excellent design system, that shows the name, info and location on the event from just clicking on the link. However the design lacked consistency with the chosen poster design (on the right). Although this was point out the the Amin who was in charge with the design of the web-link, he wouldn't seem to change the design to match the final outcome. This involved me having to come up with a solution to the change the colour outcome of the poster. This annoyed me, as the poster now became difficult again to process through screen printing and would involve and addition two layer to the design, making it harder to produce in a batch. Here is the developed design below.

Holly who was in the group was in charge of the catalogue, the overall different design idea approaches linked well to the use of circles, however all the layout designs were to hectic and busy. shown by the images below:

I decided to use the design ideas holly had and simply strip them away to form a more simplistic design layout for the catalogue, allowing there to be more focus on the work shown inside the booklet.

Following the first critique of the designed work, it was pointed out that the web-link shared no similar resemblance to the poster and the rest of the deliverables, this resulted in the web-link being changed. Also, the idea the original gradient design of the poster was deemed more appealing and  successful to that of the block coloured design, this resulted in the whole branding deliverables to be changed.

The notes taken from the Crit:

  • Image quality needs to be improved
  • Need a rationale behind typeface
  • Too much text - simplify aims
  • How will the flyers/posters be produced? Screen printing would be relevant
  • Show signage in context
  • Include letterpress workshop
  • App is inconsistent
  • Digital print is a cop-out
