DR ME Workshop

16th March

Today we had DRME come and lead a workshop with our class. For this workshop we had to create a GIF that related to one work using collage. In pairs I worked with George Williams and we picked up the work Stitch.

Initial Ideas:
  •  reverse face peeling portrait revealing botanical image underneath
  • cross cross design of merging images
  • pierced piece of paper
  • literal step by step stitching of two images.
To link with the brief of this project, I wanted to incorporate the theme of comics. This was achieved by using comics as the background. The final outcome we created was praised by DRME and for the extensive long process George and I went though to make this outcome. This GIF involved scanning and printing loads of designs of the magazine cut out, measure and score the same size shapes and carefully intertwine them to form a smooth merge of both the layers. Although we could have used just one face design of each portrait, this design allowed the outcome to become a lot smoother and refined. The contrast of the warm high contrast pinks, compliment the cooler tones of the colour in the background and overall the final outcome worked really well.
